Hui Whakapiripiri 2010
8 – 9 July | Rotorua Convention Centre, Rotorua
The Health Research Council of New Zealand is holding its annual Hui aimed at those who share an interest in Māori health and Māori health research. The theme of the Hui is Hangaia to whare korero ma nga pou rangahau e tu - Building your house of learning. This theme refers to Nga Pou Rangahau - The HRC's Strategic Plan for Māori Health Research 2010 - 2015, due to be released at this Hui, and the significance of this strategy in strengthening the relationship between Māori communities and the health sector.
The theme focuses on the four strands of; creative health research, consent, consultation and community health research. The theme encourages collaboration, understanding and learning between the various levels of the health sector and Māori communities, taking into account Māori community aspirations and culturally sensitive issues. As well, it has a focus on creative and innovative health research and health service provision for the benefit of Maori and Aotearoa/New Zealand.
The HRC would like to extend an invitation for participants to present papers at Hui Whakapiripiri 2010. Four abstract streams have been identified to encapsulate the intent of the Hui:
- Creativity – This stream encourages creative and innovative health research (methods, ideas and techniques) that benefit Maori communities as well as Aotearoa/New Zealand.
- Consent – This stream addresses the ethical issue of consent, the process in which researchers gain consent and the importance of consent to Maori.
- Consultation – This stream addresses the importance of consultation to Maori communities for both the initiation of a research project and the dissemination of research findings.
- Community – This stream will look at community initiated research and the importance of community involvement in research projects, community led research and how research findings are translated into good health outcomes.
Abstracts of up to 300 words should be electronically submitted to Shayne Wijohn by 31 May 2010. The Māori Health Committee will review and select the successful papers for presentation.
