Lay summary
The grant will be used specifically to prepare the word list for Tongan and Samoan versions of the Boston Naming Test (BNT; Kaplan, Goodglass & Weintraub 1983), a picture naming test used widely in clinical and research applications. The BNT provides invaluable information on the linguistic skills of people who have suffered a stroke and lost the ability to communicate through language. Although it has been used widely on different populations, there are very few adaptations for populations who speak a non European language. Our aim is to modify the BNT to make it culturally and linguistically appropriate for Tongan and Samoan.
