This is a Summer Studentship application. The applicant is undertaking a Post-graduate diploma in Public Health majoring in Pacific Health at the University of Auckland. The aim of this research study is to analyse Youth '07 survey data looking specifically at the factors related to alcohol use and binge drinking behaviours amongst Pacific youth. Specifically it will analyse the types of alcohol more commonly consumed, describe the sources of alcohol, identify who youth drink with (significant influencers), reasons for drinking, perceived problems with drinking behaviours and self-rated worries about drinking. The proposed research study provides opportunities for the applicant to be trained in basic research activities in completing meta-analysis (literature review) and analysis of completed quantitative survey data of a Youth '07 Adolescent Health Group, complete a two-page Fact Sheet manuscript for wider public dissemination and draft a manuscript for publication. The applicant is to be the lead author in a paper to be submitted into a peer review Medline-based journal.
