Lay summary
This is a Seeding Grant application and the recipient is a previous recipient of a Postdoctoral Fellow. The purpose of this project is to develop a database for Pacific indigenous medicinal plants as a reference for identifying potential medicinal drug leads in disease areas that most impact on Pacific people's health (e.g. diabetes, obesity, and psychosis). Current information is fragmented and not readily accessible in one location. Funding support received will be used to: (i) research/source relevant literature and information including funding access to private/institutionally-held information on Pacific medicinal plants, (ii) travel to meet and consult with authorities in this area, (iii) collate information, and (iv) develop a more detailed Pacific health research proposal for the annual contestable funding round.
