Lay summary
This award will permit Anne to gain practical, on-the-job experience with a Kaupapa Maori research project involving qualitative methods - researching the provision of support for Maori tamariki with asthma in primary schools in Lower Hutt. Her training will involve a fundamental grounding in the theory underpinning the methodology and methods employed, alongside practical experience in implementing them. Practical aspects will focus on participant recruitment strategies, informed consent processes, facilitating a focus group, and an introduction to qualitative analysis using NVivo8 software. This combination of theory and practical field-works skills will give Anne the best opportunity to develop a firm understanding of techniques that she can employ to complement her current service role, and to deliver added benefit to the whanau using Tu Kotahi's services.
