Lay summary
In this summer studentship, I will investigate the effect the increased prescription charges are having on our local Maori people. At the beginning of 2013, the standard charge for each prescription item was increased from $3 to $5. I plan to conduct interviews with Maori who may be struggling with the recent price increase. Through my marae, I will recruit people who find it difficult to pay the prescription charges and interview them about their experiences. Maori already face many barriers to access appropriate healthcare and increased prescription charges have added to these.
