Lay summary
This research will explore the theory that the delivery of sports in a cultural context can act as a medium to engage urban Maori communities and foster cultural identity and therefore improve Maori health in a broad sense. Central to the research is the issue of sport and cultural identity, including identifying what cultural markers urban Maori use to describe themselves as being Maori. The participants will also be asked if those markers were strengthened through the implementation of the Maori sport event.
