Lay summary
This research will use Talanoa to gain a better understanding and expand our knowledge regarding Pasifika caregivers in New Zealand, who choose to take on the role of being main caregivers in the home setting for their loved ones who have been diagnosed with dementia. This research will address and acknowledge a range of different factors from the perspectives of the main caregivers including, impacts on family dynamics, coping mechanisms, current healthcare systems, resources/sources of support, access to public health services and the strengths and qualities gained as a result of being a main caregiver. In doing so, this research will hope to shed light on how taking on such a role affects their overall well-being and the existing gaps within health service providers.
