Lay summary
The grant will be provided to develop, publish and disseminate a section of the findings from my Master’s thesis of Public Health (University of Auckland, first class honours) entitled: Her side of the kava story. The thesis set out to explore the health effects of piper methysticum (kava), based on the perspective of Tongan women residing in Auckland. Two articles will be developed and submitted to specified journals. The first article will explore the health effects of heavy kava consumption, while the second article will present the social implications of healthy kava use, including the evolving role of the Tou'a.
