Lay summary
Headaches are one of the most common presenting complaints in both primary and emergency care settings. A small proportion of headaches can be associated with life and sight-threatening consequences if not diagnosed and treated in a timely manner. Disorders such as intracranial tumours, haemorrhage, and idiopathic intracranial hypertension can cause a significant rise in the intracranial pressure (ICP). Conventional methods to measure and estimate the ICP are highly invasive and can be associated with debilitating complications. The novel method and technique we proposed may improve the way we detect and estimate the ICP in a time-sensitive and safe manner. This may reduce the need for conventional lumbar punctures, hence minimizing clinical risks, reducing backlogs, and improving public sector health delivery services.
