Restoring the mauri of Lake Omapere is an action-based kaupapa Māori project led by Lake Omapere Trust. It aims to develop a longitudinal research framework to ensure the long-term, enduring health and wellbeing of Lake Omapere and the community (whānau/hapū/iwi) for generations to come. This project aims to (1) understand how the wellbeing of Lake Omapere relates to the wellbeing of people (2) understand the scope, roles and actions required to undertake kaitiakitanga of Lake Omapere (3) design and implement a matauranga Māori monitoring framework harnessing kōrero tuku iho (ancestral knowledge and intergenerational knowledge transfer) (4) develop a longitudinal research framework that supports the long-term kaitiakitanga of Lake Omapere.
