Lay summary
The purpose of the study is to review the social effects of kava use, further the evolving role of the Tou’a. Examples of the social effect of kava use could include marital tension, familial breakdown and lost employment opportunities, but also positive relationships, affirming, strong sense of belonging and connection, among others. Twenty Women have been interviewed and rich data has been yielded. The findings have the potential to inform policy and highlight inadequacy in our current policies and the delivery of services tailored towards Pacific users.
