This grant will support the planning and scoping of a new research project to be submitted in the HRC’s Annual Contestable Funding Round (2023) focused on researching issues for whānau in desperate need e.g. homelessness, poverty, food insecurity, addiction and historical trauma. Tōmaiora is a Māori Health Research Unit within Te Kupenga Hauora Māori, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, University of Auckland. The PI, Associate Professor Elana Curtis is currently a board member for the Auckland City Mission (ACM) - one of Auckland's major social service providers delivering care to whānau in desperate need. This grant will support collaboration between Tōmaiora and the ACM to identify key research questions and apprporiate methods. In addition, researchers and institutions with an interest or track record in these topic areas will be engaged with via research hui/seminars. An RA will be employed to undertake appropriate literature reviews to support the planned application.
